Becoming a Genuine Christian:
Stages of Faith Development
|
| What makes a person Christian? Is it being born into a Christian
family or culture? Is it saying a certain prayer in a certain way?
Is it doing more good deeds than bad deeds, or trying really hard to
be a good person? Can a person be a Christian by just declaring
himself or herself to be one? Can you tell who is a Christian and
who is not by their speech and behavior? Does that really matter in
the end? Does going to church consistently make one a Christian?
There are dozens of questions like these that are relevant to
determining what makes for a genuine "Christian". The
title of the class suggests a process – "becoming", but
is there a point in time when a person crosses over from
non-Christian to Christian? This class will explore these questions
and the very practical side of growing in one's faith. |
| The original followers of Jesus were called "disciples."
Their discipleship under him was so important to them that it
actually superseded their careers. How does such commitment
translate into today's world for us with constant pressing demands
on our time and energy, and when simply staying one step ahead of
our schedule is a Herculean task? |
| It is interesting to note that when money, or fame, or power is
involved individuals and institutions start to pay attention to
details. They put effort into training and they invest in tools and
research and people and equipment and partnerships to achieve their
goals. It has value in their minds, so it is taken seriously and
pursued with excellence and creativity. Why don't we do this with
our faith development and relationship with God? This class will
help you get on that track. If you value your relationship to God,
allow this class to deepen and strengthen your pursuit of Him. |
