The leadership of SFC set a goal to raise a substantial amount of
funds during the initial weeks in order to address the immediate
needs of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. From these initially
donated funds we directed a little over $33,000 to each of the
following organizations: City Team
Ministries, Salvation
Army, and Samaritan's
Purse.
A similar amount was also used to initiate a SFC direct relief
fund to assist with efforts where SFC was directly involved in
serving with members of our community or to assist local churches
and ministries where SFC has developed a relationship with our
members.
A
variety of fundraisers including a car show, and New Orleans style
parade and wake have brought in additional funds that SFC has or
will be directing to Katrina recovery efforts.
SFC has also directed $20,000 toward Helping Hands Ministry in
Baton Rouge to be used toward the purchase of a mobile medical unit
that is being used to travel into the rural areas where medical care
is often inaccessible either physically or financially for many.
This mobile clinic includes two exam rooms, pharmacy, and some lab
facilities and x-ray equipment.
In addition to the partners mentioned above, SFC has also
directed funds to the School of Urban Missions, as well as provided
grants and material purchases for SFC volunteers.
