Gulf Coast Volunteer
|
| Disaster Area
Opportunities - There are needs for able-bodied, willing
volunteers to go to the Gulf Coast including medical,
counseling/therapy, construction, clean-up, and general relief work. |
| There are a couple of options for those
interested in volunteering in the Gulf Region. In many cases,
regardless of the option taken, SFC is able to help offset some or
all the costs of volunteers: |
| City Team
Ministries
The first option is to go with our initial Gulf Coast volunteer
partner, CityTeam Ministries. CityTeam has a few operations located
in Louisiana and Hancock County, Mississippi. CityTeam works with
local churches and initially focused on shelter management, however
as things have stabilized; they are providing distribution services,
legal and accounting counseling, as well as, demolition and
construction assistance. They provide SFC volunteers with good
preparation training and logistical support.

| Bay Area
Churches for Katrina
A second option is to go through one of the trips being planned
and organized by a coalition of South Bay churches including SFC.
Information on these trips can be viewed in a downloadable
brochure. The Trinity Church trips offer a variety of
opportunities including from serving meals to the teams, helping in
the Free Store giving out supplies, clearing out debris from homes
and yards, and offering skilled labor such as electrical, plumbing
and sheetrock. The Operation Katrina trips involve completing the
construction of homes that were initially framed here in the bay
area and transported to Mississippi. If you are interested in
finding out what trips are being planned, please contact us through
the Volunteer Form linked off of this page or contact Cindy Anderson
through the church office.
