Plan for Discipleship

Adult Ministry Education Developments

The last recorded thing that Jesus said to Peter before ascending into heaven, after his resurrection appearance at the Sea of Galilee was, "Do you love me?... feed my sheep." This was the task set before the great disciple, Peter, and the other disciples as well, to teach the church about the Kingdom of God. In fact the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20 is not just about evangelism, it is about "...making disciples, baptizing them... and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

The imperative above is as important for us today as it was for the young church then. We need to learn about the Kingdom of God - now. It is vital to our personal faith and relationship with God, and to our community life as a church. Three things have to be present in the church for this to take place with any real success:
  1. There needs to be competent and willing teachers who apply themselves to the task of teaching.
  2. There needs to be people who are hungry to learn about God, and who actively seek out instruction about Him and His Kingdom.
  3. The Lord must bless the efforts of the first two points.
We are hoping for an unusual convergence of all three of these elements at SFC as we offer classes that give opportunities to grow not only in head knowledge about God but also deepen your experiential relationship with him and the church community he established as his family on earth.
