Women In Need (WIN) Grants
|
| Our Christian Service Support
Team has been surprised and inspired by some acts of informed
kindness. One in particular has been especially rewarding. Early in
2002 and 2003, one of our members made generous donations toward the
needs of women in transition. |
| It is the desire of our donor that her church offer
“bridge grants” to enable women to weather unexpected storms:
the sudden death of a husband, the shock of an unwanted divorce, the
upheaval of a child’s illness. This active interest in the welfare
of those women recovering from a tragedy is especially well applied
to the survival needs of single mothers. |
| Your CSS team perceived this gift as a challenge
grant, not in the sense of a gift to be matched with equal funds,
but as a gift to be managed with equal compassion. Once again, the
CSS team had to invent a sound process to find and evaluate needs on
a case by case basis. This work has been a joy. |
| One ongoing challenge is to make the resource well
enough known to generate sufficient qualified applications, without
the process becoming so well known that we can only fund a small
percentage of qualified cases. So far, we have managed the volume of
need situations, with thirteen WIN grants to date. Our review and
award process is working well. Now we’re ready to involve you. |
| A woman, especially a single mother, who is the “innocent
victim of survival circumstances,” may qualify for a WIN grant. If
you personally know someone who might qualify, please talk privately
with a member of our team, who will explain our approval process to
you. We will be happy to work with your nominee. We are not prepared
to publicize this resource beyond the social awareness of our own
members (though the recipient need not be a member). If any social
service agency were aware, we would be overwhelmed with more
applications than we can process or fund. |
