Lenten Offering 2010 |
| Each year we take a collection
during Lent – the weeks between Ash Wednesday (February
17) and Easter Sunday ( April 4). This year's goal of $30,000
will be split equally between the two recipients chosen by
the Local and Global Outreach Teams. Please give as you are
able and designate your gift to the Lenten offering by writing "Lenten
offering"
on your check or envelope. Thank you in advance for your
continued generosity. |
| The Global Outreach team has chosen
a new partnership between International
Justice Mission (IJM),
a human rights agency, and Opportunity
International (OI),
a micro-finance organization, as this year's global recipient.
These two established organizations have embarked on a two-year
program to bring freedom and restoration to some of South
Asia's victims of forced labor, and ensure that perpetrators
are prosecuted for their crimes. Through prayer, Biblical
guidance, income-generating loans, specialized business training
and social development, IJM and OI are helping those freed
from forced labor to know their basic human rights, attain
stable employment, and provide better education and nutrition
for their families. We hope to raise $15,000 to help fund
this partnership. |
| The Local Outreach Team's recipient is Advent
Ministries. Advent gives focus to youth who are victims of
alcohol and drug addiction, abuse, neglect, gang involvement,
and chaotic family lives. They offer six residential recovery
homes for boys and girls, an after-school recovery program,
a low-cost counseling center, and a foster care program. This
Lent we hope to raise at least $3,000 per house to decorate
the teen’s bedrooms and common areas. If we fund improvements
for five homes, the total needed is $15,000. Most of the group
homes have three bedrooms with two teens in each room. Advent
has also asked us to send a team (or five teams) of SFC women
to collaborate with their young clients to find fun, economical
ways to beautify their rooms and the common areas of their
home. Working together they will help decide how to spend the
money raised. |
