Saratoga Serves
March 2012
|
| Saratoga Federated Church is participating with all the faith communities in Saratoga for the annual Saratoga Serves. It's a great opportunity to serve our community and the Bay Area. We currently have four projects for you to choose from: |
- Saratoga Park Clean Up, March 17: We are adopting Gardiner Park in Saratoga to clean up from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
|
- School of Urban Mission Easter Outreach, Easter Eggs: We have stuffed eggs with candy for the last few years to support SUM's Easter outreach. Join us on March 10, 9:00 to 11:00 am in Richards Hall .
|
- Basic Necessities Drive: SFC is collecting basic necessities for very low-income families in San Jose to be distributed through Sunday Friends, a non-profit organization serving South Bay families in need since 1997. We did a great job last year and look forward to providing again for needy families. Collections will take place on Sundays and during the week at Village Preschool and the Sanctuary office. A list of needed items will be available in the Narthex on Sunday mornings throughout March.
|
- Sunday Friends — Sunday, March 25: We are looking for volunteers to help pass out what we have collected in our Basic Necessities drive. Volunteers would work with Sunday Friends, 12:30-3:30 pm to pass out the donations to needy families.
|
| Join us at the Saratoga Serves BBQ at Wildwood Park on March 25, 3:00-5:00 pm. This free event is hosted by the City of Saratoga and celebrates the week-long focus on service projects in our community. |
Sign up online the Park Clean Up, Sunday Friends delivery, and the celebration BBQ. |

| SFC is very committed to supporting a variety of
different local outreach programs. On these pages you will find
information about some of the organizations and people that benefit
from the outreach programs at SFC. |
Community Care
Food for Working Poor Families - Many "working poor"
households have had their work hours reduced in the local economy.
Next Sunday, we will be collecting groceries between 8:30 AM and
noon. Look for the truck near the sidewalk in the Upper Parking Lot.
Friends Together will arrange the deliveries to families. A list of
items most useful and welcome is available in any church office and
the Narthex. Add this kindness to your regular shopping. Buy an
extra bag for a needy family when you shop. If you would rather make
a donation, Friends Together will do the shopping. |
Advent Group Ministries
Advent
Group Ministries is a team of Christians with a mission of
bringing hope, healing, and Christ's love to hurting children and
their families. We provide personal care through a professional
staff of counselors and social workers and a network of well trained
volunteers. |
CityTeam Ministries
CityTeam
Ministries is a non-profit organization serving the poor and
homeless in San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, Seattle,
Philadelphia and partnerships in over 7 other countries around the
world. Since 1957, CityTeam Ministries has provided life-saving
food, shelter, clothing, recovery programs, youth outreach, camp for
at-risk inner city kids, discipleship and other essential care 365
days a year. |
Downtown Ministry
This team serves the street people of San
Jose. Participants have taken to heart Jesus' words,
"I was hungry and you gave me something to
eat." For the past decade, members of the Downtown
Ministry team have quietly provided food and encouragement
each Thursday and Saturday morning to shelter residents and walk-in
homeless people in downtown San Jose. |
