Ministry
Child Hope International (CHI) has thirteen homes staffed by
Christian parents that provide loving family support to 110 homeless
and abandoned boys and girls. In this unique program, destitute
children are rescued from the streets, dumps, and jungles and placed
with local Christian families who adopt and raise them as their own.
Each child grows up in a warm, loving, family environment and begins
to realize their true worth. Each family home is given a distinctive
name such as House of Hope, House of Grace, or House of Peace. The
parents participate in on-going training by CHI, and the CHI staff
makes weekly visits to each home. $60 per month supports one child,
including meals, lodging, school tuition, uniforms, and medical
care. The goal of this ministry is to raise children who are
disciples of Jesus, strong in character, well-educated, and ready to
assume a role of responsibility in the society and church within
Nepal. These homes are located in various sections of Kathmandu and
the far west part of Nepal.
In addition to its work with orphaned and abandoned children, CHI
provides educational assistance. Due to the turmoil created by the
Maoist guerrilla warfare, Kathmandu has been inundated by refugees
from the countryside. CHI currently provides tuition of $10 per
month per child for 46 children. Their parents, all Christians and
refugees, are too poor to afford tuition. The vision of this
ministry is to create Christian professionals, such as doctors,
nurses, accountants, lawyers, evangelists, and pastors, who will
help transform the country for Jesus. CHI is also providing funds
for four Christian students in a nursing program. The initial fee is
$600 - $700 with monthly fees of $50 - 70 per month. These students
are able to attend nursing school only because of the support they
receive from CHI. Their impact on the health care system in Nepal,
once they have graduated, will be significant.
Because of the refugee situation, many Nepalese have now moved to
Kathmandu. CHI has begun an evangelism campaign that seeks to
establish five churches in Kathmandu. Several evangelists have been
identified and they will focus on evangelism, home Bible studies,
and church planting. The impact of this ministry could be enormous.
Eventually, the refugees will return to their villages and they will
take the gospel with them, telling even more people about the good
news of Jesus. Equipping this ministry costs around $750 per month.
