Neal and Martha Kooyers

Neal and Martha helped to form Pacific Island Ministries (PIM) in 1977 after being with Wycliffe Bible Translators for 18 years and completing the translation of the Waskuk New Testament. Pacific Island Ministries is a non-profit organization that sends missionaries to Papa New Guinea. These missionaries train pastors, leaders, and Christian elementary teachers and assist locals with establishing churches and schools. Small villages and hamlets located in jungle clearings or along rivers often lack basic education for children. The missionaries aid these villages by training Christian elementary teachers and providing curriculum. These teachers often work in remote and arduous areas.

PIM missionaries are also involved in providing health services which has significantly reduced the infant mortality rate and short life expectancy of adults. These missionaries provide medical training for over 80 orderlies who serve in neighboring villages. In addition to health care services and training missionaries reach out to villages through technical education in areas of welding, plumbing, electrical work and small engine repair.

Neal and Martha currently oversee the operation of PIM from California.
