Jon
joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in 1983 when he took what he
thought would be just five months off to give God an opportunity to
enter into his life in ways he hadn't seen before. It was a life
changing experience and it propelled him into full time service.
Over the next eight years he lived in Asia, visited many countries
while working on a hospital ship, and lived in Europe. He
participated in street evangelism, youth ministry, dental assisting,
and driving ambulances.
When asked, What compels you to give
your life to ministering in light of other options you may have had
regarding career and where to live? Jon replied, "To
answer that question let me just go back a bit and say that I knew
early on that if I was going to live my life to the fullest I knew
it had to be something I did for the Lord. I wanted to make a
difference from as far back as I can remember. I knew I didn't want
to live a normal life with a normal job. When I was presented with
the opportunity to work with Youth With A Mission in my early 20's
it seemed like my opportunity to do something that allowed me to use
the skills I had. I knew that it would take me down a road that
would lead me to other opportunities I hadn't even thought of yet.
It eventually lead me into video production. Through all of the work
I had done up to this point, I was given an education that school
alone could never give. I had lived over seas, I had visited some 20
or 30 nations all with different perspectives and world views, and
now I was meeting top leaders and missionaries with knowledge and
experience that taught me to change the way I saw the world, the way
I viewed the character and nature of God. I have somehow inherited a
passion for finding the truths of God no matter where it takes me.
Along with that I have inherited a passion to share what I have
found and am still in the process of finding with as many as who
share that passion for truth and will listen. Video communication is
the best way for me to communicate these thoughts and ideas mainly
because I'm neither a great public speaker nor writer but I can
create a video that communicates these concepts. I have a passion
for finding the truths of God and for helping others to find truth
as well. I feel great accomplishment when someone hears something
new and it changes the way they see God in their lives. I think that
is one of the main driving forces behind why I do what I do."
Jon is the Executive Producer of "Global Perspectives"
(GP), YWAM's news video magazine which circulates to the mission at
large, as well as to YWAM friends and former staff. This video
program highlights what YWAM is doing around the world, and allows
leaders to speak into the mission while discussing issues that are
relevant to the work and lives of those in the field. GP addresses
issues such as AIDS and HIV in the mission, the use and abuse of
authority, the role of women in the church, the role of the church
in a post-modern society, and other issues that will challenge
people in the new millennium.
Cheri is the Chief Financial Officer for Development Associates
International (DAI) a ministry providing solid, biblically-based
leadership curriculum for leaders in developing countries who feel
they have few models for good Christian leadership.
