The Transformation of a Neighborhood
|
| One of our community care teams has been operating in
a variety of ways to improve the quality of life in a particular San
Jose neighborhood. Volunteers at Nancy Lane Ministries have
been working with local residents in groups and one-on-one,
mentoring and tutoring adults and youth. This creative project
has been maturing and succeeding for many years. We now are
seeking more servants. |
Social Impact
Under the influence of our volunteers this neighborhood has
received the active attention of city agencies. It is now a
safer, cleaner, kinder setting in which to raise a family. It
is also a rewarding place to serve. Our church supports the
rental of a 3-bedroom apartment in the heart of a culturally diverse
low-income community. It is the site for our service. |
Child Enrichment
Beyond the affections of devoted parents our programs offer
significant stimulation in the development of children. Many
of these children would have no exposure to art, music, supervised
recreation, or life beyond their street without our
involvement. Parents are grateful for the enrichments we
offer. |
School Success
Older children need help with homework, and younger children need
help learning to read. We tutor each Tuesday and Thursday
afternoon. It is our dream to offer tutoring Monday through
Thursday. |
Supporting Parents
Several friendships have been formed with parents. The
Mom's Club has encouraged many overwhelmed mothers. It has
also led to some cooperative initiatives that have improved the
neighborhood. |
Faith Nurture
We have had ample opportunity to present God as real and personal
and just and merciful and available-to-be-known. Parents have
welcomed our programs of child evangelism and Bible study. |
